My heart goes out to all the family and friends who have had this precious person taken away from them so suddenly and so violently. When I was his age (45 years ago) I hoped so much that future generations would not have to go through what we had to back then which is why it makes me all the more angry that the bigotry continues. Larry will not be forgotten. He has now touched hearts the world over and his beautiful picture will be there as inspiration for us to keep working for our rights as equal citizens both as adults and students at school who deserve respect.

Our hearts go out to all the families and friends who knew Larry. May you find peace in the memories you've shared. This poem, "A Child Loaned", my parents received when my brother died and the age of 17 in a hit-and-run accident and it has become a special poem for our family. May you find some comfort in the words. ~Peace
A Child Loaned "I'll lend you for a while a child of Mine." He said.... "For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he's dead. It may be for a month or two or years that number less than twenty. But will you till I call him back Take care of him for me? He'll bring him charms to gladden you And should his stay be brief, You'll have his lovely memories As solace for your grief. I cannot promise he will stay Since all from earth return, But there are lessons taught down here I want this child to learn. I've looked this world over. In my search for teachers true And from the throngs that crowd life's lane I have selected you....... Now will you give him all your love Not think the labor vain Not hate me when I come to call And take him back again? I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord thy will be done For all the joy Thy child shall bring The risk of grief we'll run. We'll shelter him while we may And for the happiness we've known Forever grateful stay. But should the angels call for him Much sooner than we planned We'll brave the bitter grief that comes And try to understand." |
